Cole Easdon's transport consultants produced the Transport Statement to support Cottsway's planning application for a residential scheme intended for the over 55s to replace an existing sheltered housing development.

The Transport Statement considered the traffic, transportation and highway implications associated with the proposed development, including matters specific to the local highway network, the accessibility of the site by sustainable transport modes, the proposed access arrangements and parking provision, and the predicted vehicle trip generation.

Our experts also provided swept path analysis of the layout design and provided a visibility splay drawing.

Our Experts’ Input:

Transport Statement and Swept Path Analysis.

The preparation of a Transport Statement and swept path analysis demonstrated that the traffic impact would be minimal and a Road Safety Audit was not required for the new access.

Notwithstanding, the planning application attracted a lot of local interest given the local network of narrow, historic streets where on-street parking prevails. Despite this, initially the local highway authority sought a reduction in the proposed level of parking given the sustainable location, something that Cottsway wanted to avoid.

One of our highways experts successfully overcame this by discussing the scheme and the content of the Transport Statement with the highways officer over the telephone, avoiding a formal objection and allowing the scheme to be approved at planning committee.
