Our Expertise: Residential Developments
CEC provide a comprehensive Engineering Appraisal and Design Service for both local and national house-builders. Appraisal includes drainage feasibility, access arrangements and transport links. Design incorporates advice on layouts, access roads (horizontal and vertical design), parking zones, traffic calming features, domestic drainage, external works, liaison with local authorities and service providers, setting out information, site supervision and production of conveyance plans.
Services we have recently provided include:
Charles Church (Western)
Ruardean, Forest Of Dean
Despite its situation on a steep gradient, the design had to achieve Part M level accesses, particularly as some of the houses fronted directly onto an existing carriageway. Part of the drainage design utilized Stormcell for on-site attenuation in agreement with Welsh Water.
Crest Nicholson
New College, Swindon
CEC successfully introduced permeable paving as a form of sustainable drainage for this high-density residential development to reduce the level of required storage within the adoptable sewer. The road layout was designed to incorporate a new bus route.
George Wimpey
St Joseph’s School, Swindon
Site Appraisal for a new development in Swindon including costing for a new highway bridge, on-site attenuation measures and statutory undertaker costs.
Hannick Homes
Wansdyke Nurseries, Devizes
A new development on an existing arboretum, where every tree within the site was protected by a Tree Preservation Order. CEC’s design avoided these trees yet met with the Developer’s requirements. A foul water pumping station was introduced and porous pipes used to dissipate surface water into a small storage lagoon and the surrounding ground.
Hills Property Ltd
Sarum Drive, Devizes
CEC designed an access road complete with turning head and cycleway links. The drainage design incorporated adoptable highway soakaways to drain the new highway.
Newland Homes
Hayden Road, Cheltenham
CEC liaised with the Environment Agency throughout the design to avoid adverse effects to the nearby River Chelt. To provide access to the site, CEC designed a mini-roundabout, which incorporated traffic calming features and safe crossing points for pedestrians.
Persimmon Homes
Witney, Oxfordshire
A large residential development for which CEC provided the design for drainage and highways. As part of the design, and to satisfy with the Environment Agency and local wildlife experts, a mammal crossing was introduced. This enabled local wildlife, in particular Badgers, to cross the new highway in safety through a purpose-built tunnel.
Westbury Homes
Shaftesbury, Dorset
CEC designed the highways and drainage for this large residential development. The domestic drainage had to consider the proximity of the houses to the back of the adoptable footpaths. Various types of road drainage were used in the design, including central drainage channels. On-site surface water storage was increased through the enlargement of an existing pond.
PACE
Chapelford Urban Village, Warrington
An urban village concept development incorporating some 2000 dwellings together with retail, leisure, education and employment uses and a new railway station. Comprehensive drainage assessment and design of highways, with particular emphasis on public transport, cycling and walking.
