Working with both national retailers and large retail developers, CEC have an excellent understanding of how to maximise the profitability and efficiency of a site through intelligent engineering input.  In relation to existing sites, we provide advice and solutions to retailers with respect to matters such as:

▪ the internal roads and parking layout to
▪ achieve greater efficiencies or to improve
▪ an existing road safety problem;
▪ transport appraisals to identify existing
▪ levels of traffic generation and parking
▪ demand;
▪ vehicular access improvements;
▪ servicing arrangements; and
▪ parking management strategy.  

We also provide preventative and reactive advice in relation to flood risk by designing solutions to protect sites from future flooding events.  Our understanding of the engineering matters that affect the commercial viability of a site means that we are able to provide strategic engineering advice to retailers in relation to the long term management of their property portfolios and land holdings, including helping to prevent competitor retailers from gaining planning permission in a particular location.

For retail space developers, we provide input throughout the planning and development process, including professional input to planning applications with respect to transport, flood risk, and infrastructure; detailed on and off-site infrastructure design, development feasibility studies and land promotion, car park layout design, and vehicle swept path analysis.

Case study examples are provided throughout the website under each of our key disciplines, however, the following provide a flavour of the work we have undertaken for retailers:

Tesco, Bristol:  Transport Planning and Civil Engineering Design Services in respect of possible road safety improvements at a large retail park in north Bristol, on which Tesco are the largest occupier.  Our work included an initial summary report identifying possible road safety improvements, followed by more detailed advice and provision of construction cost estimates for a preferred scheme.

Tesco, Chelmsford:  Transport Planning and Water Management Services for a proposed Tesco Express store, together  with residential development on land occupied by a Public House.  Our work  included the preparation of a Transport Assessment and Flood Risk Assessment to support the planning application.

Long Hanborough: Transport Planning and Civil Engineering Design services as well as Site Supervision for a new Co-operative foodstore and associated upgrading of an existing 3-arm roundabout to create a fourth arm into the foodstore. More...
