Technical Representation at Public Exhibitions
Consultation with the local community is becoming an increasingly important part of the planning submission process, with developers regularly being required to present formal public exhibitions (particularly for larger schemes) in order to showcase the proposals, and for the public to be able to provide comments and raise questions.
The purpose of community engagement is for the public to be able to influence the design and development proposals before they are finalised by the developer.
This process is normally conducted through means of public exhibitions, whereby the developer would hire out a town hall (or similar) and then set up an ‘exhibition’ of the development proposals, typically providing boards with information about the proposals, plans showing the location of the site in relation to the rest of the town / village, as well as the masterplan or elevations of the proposed building(s) etc.

North Baddesley, Hampshire: attendance at public exhibition in relation to an infill residential development proposal for some 44 dwellings. CEC represented the client in relation to flood risk and transport planning matters, where significant local concern was expressed about flooding and congestion at an adjacent signal controlled junction. CEC were able to demonstrate that the proposal would actually improve matters for local residents.
Victoria Hospital, Swindon, Wiltshire: attendance at public exhibition in relation to the redevelopment of an NHS hospital site for 37 dwellings. CEC represented the client (NHS Trust) in relation to transport planning matters.
