Technical Representation at Public Exhibitions
pp1acf8808.png
Consultation with the local community is becoming an increasingly important part of the planning submission process, with developers regularly being required to present formal public exhibitions (particularly for larger schemes) in order to showcase the proposals, and for the public to be able to provide comments and raise questions.

The purpose of community engagement is for the public to be able to influence the design and development proposals before they are finalised by the developer.

This process is normally conducted through means of public exhibitions, whereby the developer would hire out a town hall (or similar) and then set up an ‘exhibition’ of the development proposals, typically providing boards with information about the proposals, plans showing the location of the site in relation to the rest of the town / village, as well as the masterplan or elevations of the proposed building(s) etc.
How We Can Help

CEC is experienced in representing their clients as part of the community consultation process.

Crucially, we are able to present technical and sometimes complicated information in a clear and concise way so that is easily understood by a layperson.

We understand that proposals for new developments can elicit hostile (and often misinformed) reactions and opinions by local residents. This can make for heated discussion at public exhibitions.

We know just how to handle such situations, where calm and authoritative explanations usually placate even the most irate resident!

A positive public consultation process can sometimes make the difference between planning approval and refusal.  We combine expert opinion with a cool head to help ensure a successful end result.
Examples of Our Work

Abbotswood, Romsey, Hampshire: attendance at public exhibition and a stakeholder meeting in relation to a proposal to build 800 dwellings on the northern edge of the town.  CEC represented the client in relation to flood risk, transport planning and infrastructure matters.  More...

Lechlade, Gloucestershire: attendance at a town council led public meeting in relation to a proposal to construct a Petrol Filling Station and small food store on a brownfield site.  CEC represented the client in relation to transport planning and infrastructure matters, answering questions from the general public as well as town councillors.
Developers are often represented at such exhibitions by their professional team in order that they can provide expert opinion and further information to the public about the proposals.

This helps to avoid the potential pitfalls of misinformation being spread by the public, whilst also helping to ensure that the proposals are presented in the best possible light.

North Baddesley, Hampshire: attendance at public exhibition in relation to an infill residential development proposal for some 44 dwellings.  CEC represented the client in relation to flood risk and transport planning matters, where significant local concern was expressed about flooding and congestion at an adjacent signal controlled junction.  CEC were able to demonstrate that the proposal would actually improve matters for local residents.

Victoria Hospital, Swindon, Wiltshire: attendance at public exhibition in relation to the redevelopment of an NHS hospital site for 37 dwellings.  CEC represented the client (NHS Trust) in relation to transport planning matters.

Mechanical Biological Treatment Plant, Westbury, Wiltshire: attendance at public exhibition in relation to a proposal by the Hills Group for a Mechanical Biological Treatment Plant on the outskirts of Westbury.  CEC successfully represented the client in relation to transport planning matters.
